Mahsa Amini’s killing created the Iranian women’s revolt against the most obscurantist of theocracies. It is the first time in the history of humanity that a national movement for rights has been generated by women. Women of all ages, ethnic groups, origin and faith that take off the veil of oppression to claim the rights of an entire people, heir to one of the oldest civilizations.
The Iranian young people are with them, the peasants and shopkeepers of the bazaar are with them, the lawyers and the engineers are with them, the soldiers who desert are with them. The blind and violent power of the Ayatollah trembles for the indomitable courage of these women. It is the task of each of us, of every individual who loves freedom, to be by their side.
