As per tradition, the ninth edition of the Mediterranean Musical Encounters International Music Festival in Siderno, from 6 to 15 July, also includes a cello masterclass held by Mike Shirvani.

Mike Shirvani, of Persian origin, studied at the S. Cecilia Conservatory in Rome with G. Selmi and E. Altobelli for the cello, F. Tamponi, A. Stefanato and P. Urbini for quartet and chamber music. He perfected his skills at the Maastricht Conservatory with R. Aldulescu. He has been awarded and finalist in various chamber music competitions. He holds recitals and performs chamber music in Italy and abroad: in France, USA, Iran, India, Lebanon, Sweden, Egypt and Greece with wide acclaim from critics and audiences. He has played as a soloist and chamber musician at the Festivals of Persepolis, Due Mondi in Spoleto, Sant’Arcangelo in Romagna, “Le Corti dell’Arte” in Cava de’ Tirreni, at the Eurofestival in Gradara and at the Baroque festival in Viterbo. Shirvani founded the “Consunus Violoncello Ensembe” and was a member of the trio “R. Schumann”, the trio Roudakì, the Max Bruch Clarinet Trio. He has recorded for EMI and with the Max Bruch Trio for Titania. He has been a member of the jury in various national competitions. He has held positions at various state conservatories. His cellist students have won over 70 first prizes in national and international competitions, demonstrating without equivocation the solidity of his school. In 1987 and 1988 he taught cello at the International Seminary of Montefiascone and from 1989 to 1995 he taught cello at the International Specialization Course of Cava de’ Tirreni. From 1991 to 1994 he taught the course for the chamber orchestra of the Baroque Festival of Viterbo. In 1996 he taught the professional qualification course at the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale of Spoleto. He taught cello at the International Seminary of Porto Recanati in the summer of 1996 and from 1997 to 2004 he taught at the specialization courses in Viterbo. He is professor emeritus of cello and chamber music at the Conservatories of Campobasso, Cosenza, Messina, Udine, Viterbo, Monopoli and others.
