Eco Academy in the Forest

The Project

THE ECO ACADEMY IN THE WOODS

The Eco Academy in the Woods is an innovative project that was born from the desire of sisters Leila and Sara Shirvani to disseminate music combined with a particular sensitivity towards the environment.

Its aim is to fuse the world of music with the world of nature and to bring classical music – the real, analogue, ancestral kind – back to its roots, giving students the chance to study it in close contact with Mother Earth and offering advanced courses far from all forms of distraction.

These ideas of “contact with nature” are the basis of the first eco-sustainable music academy, an artistic residence for advanced training in eco-sustainable music that provides creative spaces in direct contact with nature where artists can share experiences, cultures and different ways of making art.

Highly qualified teachers will dedicate themselves to concerts, master classes and courses with students of all ages with the conviction that even the youngest deserve to study with the best examples, for as long as necessary and in sustainable environments.

The natural setting of the Academy helps to dedicate oneself to musical activity without distraction.  The spaces invite musicians, their families and concert guests to stay in an environment where time flows only to the rhythm of music and nature.

The academy will host the following activities on its land in eco-sustainable wooden classrooms spread among the trees:

annual courses in cello, piano, violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet, composition, conducting,
international master classes and advanced courses,
music-themed summer centres,
ensembles, orchestras, workshops
interdisciplinary meetings between artists
exhibitions

A huge stage is being planned, that will be able to host solo, chamber and orchestral concerts while maintaining the existing vegetation.

In addition, “the cello house”, “the piano house”, “The chamber music house”, “The Opera house”, “the clarinet house” and “the flute house” will be positioned in the nature of the ground “. All five of them will be wooden houses with huge windows and terraces overlooking the mountains.

In the long term, there are plans for accommodation in the academy hostel and a vegan bistro.

The academy is being built on an appropriately wooded plot of land in the Municipality of Montasola (RI), only 65 km from Rome.

The project has already been deposited by our Team of Technicians to the local Authorities.

The creation of the Eco Academy in Montasola makes it possible to create an institution of international standing in the inland areas, revaluing an area that deserves the offer of this type of education.

The Eco Academy has already been the scene of various cello masterclasses with final concerts and of the great concert day “Nowrous 2022 – spring concert” which saw various internationally renowned artists on a large stage and even Leila Shirvani soloist with symphonic orchestra. The concert marathon was followed by a very large audience.

The Eco Academy has been reported by the Shirvani Sisters on numerous television and radio programmes such as Kilimangiaro and Stefano Bollani’s Via dei Matti number zero on Rai 3, a report on TG 1, in Linea Verde on Rai 1, on TeleAmbiente and Iran International as well as on Rai Radio 3.
